MODULE 1 - SCREENWRITING

The two week Screenwriting summer program introduces students to the creative writing process and to the writing of a short film (3 minutes in length).

Lectures and classes cover theoretical knowledge, including storytelling and narrative structure, visual grammar, and the English-language screenwriting format. This is combined with students writing their own scripts during workshop sessions and during their free time.

 

SCHEDULE

Full weeks of classes from 10 am to 5 pm :

Week 1

Lectures and classes (2 days)

  • Narrative structure, preparing a synopsis, the English-language screenplay format, the creative writing process
  • Screenwriting workshops (3 days) :
Students begin to write their own scripts during the workshops and also use their free time to prepare their ideas and re-write the screenplays

Week 2

Lectures and classes (2 days)

  • Introduction to Directing (Directing actors, ‘mise en scène’, stage direction), Introduction to Cinematography (Cameras, lenses, movements, lighting, and sound), Introduction to Production (Relationship between writers and production companies, script development, pre-production, shooting, post-production)
    Screenwriting workshops (3 days)
    Students discuss and re-write their scripts, aiming for a good final draft. The best or few best scripts can then be proposed to directing students taking part in Module 2.
